How does the turbo work on a 2000 volvo s40? If it does not work, does it affect the rest of the engine?

sarrey29 asked:

I just recently bought a 2000 volvo s40 and I was wondering if anyone knows how the turbo works. It doesn’t seem to be THAT fast of a car, but it seems to go faster at higher RPMs. I also read somewhere that it is a low pressure turbo. Might that have something to do with it? Also, if the turbo on one of these cars does not work, does it affect the rest of the engine?

Volvo, Out To Conquer Indian Auto Market

Thursday, July 24th, 2008
volvo
Kenneth Mckinley asked:

The Volvo Car Corporation is out to expand their market. And they have decided on introducing and bringing their cars to India. They would be having the start of sales of their vehicles come the last quarter of this year.

Volvo Cars India would be having its main office based in Delhi. Of course, they would do need to introduce their products and vehicles in the market first and Volvo has decided to bring out the luxury car Volvo S80 and the crossover sport utility vehicle Volvo XC90 first in the market. As the vehicles get product recall, the company is planning on bringing more cars to the Indian automobile market.

President and chief executive officer of Volvo Cars is Fredrik Arp and he says, “It is an important step for Volvo Cars to establish a presence on this market at a time when India is showing considerable growth in the passenger car market. Moreover, we believe that the timing is right in comparison with our closest competitors.”

With India having a good growth in its economy plus a low rate of inflation, the company believes that it would indeed be a good starting ground for bringing Volvo cars to the Indian market. Volvo is expecting to see an increase in their total sales as the years go on.

Fredrik Arp even continues by saying, “All these models represent modern Scandinavian elegance and we are convinced they will be highly successful on the Indian market too. Our objective is to build the already strong Volvo brand in India with quality prestige cars from Volvo.”

After the launch of the two mentioned Volvo vehicles in the market, the company would also be targeting on bringing in new vehicles to the Indian market from 2006 up until 2009. The plans are to bring new models like the Volvo C70 convertible, Volvo C30 compact car.

Volvo parts like Volvo 940 parts and Volvo accessories are available at Volvo Parts and Used Volvo Parts. These are offered at good wholesale prices and are guaranteed to work best with your Volvo vehicle.

Volvo Moves Out of the Boxy Image

Thursday, July 24th, 2008
volvo
Glady Reign asked:

The word “boxy” is a big no-no to Simon Lamarre, a top designer at AB Volvo. When Volvo is mentioned what comes to mind is its “boxy” image. Boxy means plain and boring and these adjectives are hated by the designer.

There are numerous efforts on the part of the automaker to erase the boxy stigma attached to its product lines. These efforts are made stronger by the 38-year-old Quebecker, who stumbled into auto styling after following his girlfriend to her native Sweden. He is the latest crusader in the automaker’s campaign to banish the Volvo’s reputation for sturdy but boring-looking vehicles. The secret formula is to use cutting-edge style, improved ergonomics, reliable OEM parts and ideal Volvo aftermarket parts. Blending them together would definitely create a fabulous lineup.

“The image of the boxy Volvo disappeared about 10 years ago, and yet four out of five people on the street still say it makes big, boxy cars,” said a frustrated Mr. Lamarre, a graduate of the Université du Québec à Montréal’s environmental design school who grew up in the bedroom suburb of Ste-Thérèse, but moved to Sweden 17 years ago.

Lamarre speaks fluent Swedish. He is currently staying with his family near Goteborg on the west coast of Sweden. Earlier, he was spotted at Montreal’s auto show for the unveiling of Volvo’s first compact model – the Volvo C30.

The Volvo C30, the hatchback version of the Volvo S40, V50 and C70 luxury vehicle range, is a three-door, four-seat car powered by I4 and I5 engines. It uses the same Ford C1 platform and sheetmetal of the dashboard and windshield as that of its siblings. The car was introduced in the United States as a 2008 model with the T5 as the single version.

The Volvo C30 features a wide variety of engines. Petrol engines offered by the model include the 100 horsepower 1.6 liter I4, a 170 horsepower 2.4 liter inline-5, and a 220 horsepower turbocharged 2.5 liter inline-5. Diesel engine offers include the 109 horsepower 1.6 liter inline-4, and a 180 horsepower 2.4 liter inline-5. The upgraded sound system featured in the car includes a digital 5×130 watt ICE Power amplifier from Alpine featuring Dolby Pro Logic II Surround, and 10 loudspeakers from Danish Dynaudio. Said features are primarily aimed to capture that desires of young generation drivers.

In connection with safety features of the car, the automaker equipped it with the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), the latter is used to detect and overcome “blind spots” or “dead areas” in the driver’s view to the rear. Volvo’s Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS) is also integrated to the car. Said system is responsible for continuously monitoring the car’s preemptive system. The car also features traction control, airbags, electronic stability program, four-wheel anti-lock braking system and seat belts with pretensioners.

The Volvo C30 is the automaker’s bid to win the preference of generation Y. The sporty hatchback is especially designed for the 25- to 35-year-old urban singles set, a departure to the usual Volvo market. Lamarre said Volvo is betting big on the Volvo C30 to freshen its image and lure first-time Volvo buyers. “We realized we had to do something new again [after introducing the successful XC90 sport-utility car in 2003],” said Lamarre.

To fill the missing piece in the success portfolio of the automaker, the latter is “taking a big step outside its comfort zone,” added Lamarre, who designed the Volvo C30’s exterior with its idiosyncratic all-glass hatch and who described his approach as opening up renowned Swedish “form-follows-function” design to global influences.

Experts in the auto industry are impressed by the Volvo C30’s appeal and prowess. James Sanfilippo, executive vice-president and senior analyst with auto consultant AMCI in Michigan, said, “That’s some of the best small-car architecture in the world right now. They’ve nailed it. They’ve gone from under the radar screen to bull’s eye.”

However, there are also those who are skeptical about the car. Rebecca Lindland, an analyst with Global Insight in Lexington, Massachusetts said, “That segment is quite difficult to make money in. You have to be both competitively priced but also have a lot of content, putting pressure on your margins.” She added, “The No. 1 issue with that strategy is that it has to be an absolutely flawless ownership experience. That’s the risk that you run with this strategy of trying to win over a very young consumer.”

Lamarre said the sales target for the Volvo C30 is 65,000 units in its first full year. The automaker also hopes that total sales of the car would jump to 600,000 by 2009 from about 400,000 at present.

Volvo has not been a money maker for Ford lately and so it is delivering the Volvo C30 with high hopes. It is scheduled to hit the roads of Canada in April with a base price of $27,495. It will be competing against the Audi A3, BMW’s Mini Cooper, Mazda3 and the Volkswagen GTI.

Ensure Durability and Safety With Volvo Oem Parts

Friday, July 18th, 2008
volvo
John Garett asked:

Volvo is a car brand was founded on April 14, 1927 by Assar Gabrielson and Gustaf Larsson in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is a Latin word which means “I roll.” The symbol for Volvo’s cars, which is a circle with a diagonal arrow, was originally the sign for iron. The reason behind using this symbol was that they wanted to associate Volvo cars with Swedish steel which is renowned for its durability. Since then, the iron symbol has been synonymous with Volvo throughout the world. Volvo cars are known for their strong Scandinavian origin which is apparent in the elegance, function and cleanness in their designs. With this alone, one can say what every Volvo car is worth. Only high quality parts are used to produced a Volvo car and only Volvo OEM parts should be used to replace these parts in the future. Though OEM parts may be a little bit more expensive than after market parts, it’s also true that you can’t put a price tag on safe and quality Volvo parts. OEM parts or original equipment manufacturer parts are basically the parts that are used in the assembly of the Volvo car brand. They are genuine and often implied as high quality compared to after market parts. Volvo OEM parts have been tested and validated according to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Volvo OEM parts are produced according to the highest standards of quality only. They are designed and scientifically tested to work best with every Volvo vehicle. Only Volvo OEM parts can guarantee maximum performance for every Volvo car because when Volvo car is made, these parts were made with it. Having Volvo OEM parts is like having a suit specially tailored to fit in a Volvo car in the exact way it should be fitted. This is because of the belief that components and other processed items may work better or fit better if they come from the OEM and meet the original standards, tooling, and product specifications established for the product. This is the main reason why many Volvo owners still opt for Volvo OEM parts instead of the less expensive after market parts.

Volvo Chose Arnold/nitro for Future Ad Campaign

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008
volvo
Glady Reign asked:

The auto industry is a competitive world and the money that car companies put into ad campaigns is a proof of that. These ads are great tools in promoting car brands. Volvo for example is believed to allocate $150 million for global advertising. This is a good investment for companies since through ad campaigns, consumers are informed of the strong selling points of their products. And in Volvo’s case, it is their range of automobiles.

Recently, Volvo announced that they have picked a new firm to handle their ad affairs. The two final firms left after Volvo shortened their list are Arnold/Nitro and Fallon. After much deliberation, Volvo’s Director of Global Advertising, Tim Ellis, announced that they will be working with Arnold and Nitro.

It is a common knowledge for car buyers that Volvo is dedicated to producing safe cars. With their working relationship with Arnold/Nitro, Volvo said that it will not broaden their position where car safety is concerned. “I wouldn’t say we’re broadening the positioning beyond safety,” says Ellis. “I would say that we’re redefining safety, meaning that we’re redefining the bigger promise behind what safety really means. It’s about identifying an idea in which safety is very firmly grounded in the core, but it presents the brand in a more emotional, desirable way.”

Volvo also maintained that they will be focusing on what they do best and that is safety. The Swedish brand also pointed out that they will be aiming marketing their cars as what they are - a high-end luxury brand. “We are a high-end, upscale brand,” says Ellis. “Therefore, we need to present the product in a context that is high end and upscale - something that people can aspire to,” he explained further. “What we’ve done before is be very inconsistent with our message. We have talked about the things that all car manufacturers talk about - performance, design, safety, high technology - but we haven’t wrapped all that up into one single-minded proposition that communicates what Volvo is all about. To do that, the idea has to build off and leverage the core brand properties that people know about Volvo, which are safety, care for the environment and care for people. The idea has to redefine that in a new, exciting way. It’s about why does Volvo focus on safety? It’s about the care for people, the togetherness you get with a Volvo, the promise of how Volvo builds their cars.”

During the final review, Arnold/Nitro faced up against Fallon and Ellis stated the reason why the former was chosen. “They provided the best balance of focusing on who we are as a company and moving us forward in a more innovative, modern way,” according to Ellis. “Both agencies did present ideas and expressions of those ideas that were grounded in the Volvo brand, but we felt that Arnold did it in the best way. It is based on the focus on people that Volvo has. It’s about ‘yes safety’ and ‘why safety’.” Ellis also stated Volvo’s view of the capabilities of the independent advertising firm Nitro. “They’re a very dynamic group and are growing quite fast,” says Ellis.

As far as what the firm can do for them, Ellis has this to say: “One of our core emerging markets is China. They have a very strong office in Shanghai. And from Shanghai, they moved West, which is very interesting and unusual in the advertising industry. That in itself was very appealing and attractive to us. Even though they have a relatively small agency compared to the others competing in this pitch, they have great clients like Nike, which requires a lot of emotion and a lot of passion, which again, is something we want to focus on with Volvo communications.”

With the company’s working relationship with the said advertising firms, it is just a matter of time before the world witness a new era in the advertising of Volvo vehicles loaded with safety features and reliable parts such as Volvo fan blades.

I have a Volvo 850R with a blown turbo, and I’m looking to buy a used one to replace it. I just don’t know the name of it. The name is something like a G15 or K15 or something like that. Does anyone know the exact name to search for? Or where to get one for cheap? Thanks.

Volvo Delivers 1 Engine, 5 Fuels in V70

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008
volvo
Glady Reign asked:

The styling is a gentle evolution of its ancestors but its front end is inspired by the new Volvo S80 sedan and the Volvo C30 hatch. But what is more interesting about the Volvo V70 is that it uses one engine which can run using five different fuels.

Some aficionados regard the wagon segment as dead. To circumvent this notion, Volvo put a lot of time and money to make the Volvo V70 wagon good looking and admirable in every respect. The all-new Volvo V70 belongs to the third generation of the car. However, the car is not treated as a direct replacement for the previous Volvo V70 but only as an estate version.

The Volvo V70 prototype is engineered to compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5-Series. The wagon features a distinct grille and front bumper but the dashboard and majority of the interior are basically the same. Auto parts and accessories integrated to the car including Volvo brake caliper, rotors and suspension are upgraded to complement the functionality of the Volvo V70.

What is more interesting than minor modifications is the enhancement of the Volvo engine to entertain five fuels that include standard gasoline, E85 (bioethanol), natural gas, biomethane, and hythane. The most interesting fuel among the five is hythane. The latter is a mixture of hydrogen and methane. Hythane, the most recent type of alternative fuel blend, is composed of 10 percent hydrogen and 90 percent methane.

Hythane, E85 bioethanol and CNG biomethane are extra-clean fuels. This fact made the car successful in surpassing all existing emissions regulations imposed in any market these days. It will also qualify for the upcoming EuroV emissions regulations. The extra-clean fuels also have the benefit of being carbon neutral. This means that the amount of carbon emitted when the fuel is burned is equivalent to the amount acquired by the crops used to make the fuel.

Aside from running on five different fuels, another notable feature of the Volvo V70 Prototype is its relatively consistent performance regardless of the fuel used. Volvo said the turbocharged engine of the prototype is capable of generating about 200 horsepower. Said horsepower is sufficient to power up the wagon.

Volvo has established a remarkable track record in the field of producing environment-friendly cars. These automotive milestones reflect Volvo’s commitment to help clean the environment by reducing harmful emissions that contribute greatly to global warming. Aside from green car manufacture embraced in the environment philosophy of Volvo, other primordial concerns of the automaker include safety and quality.

Volvo has communicated its intention to transform its entire lineup into green cars. The Volvo V50, its station wagon variant, is available in Europe as a Flexi-Fuel model. The car can run on E85 bioethanol. When it runs on said fuel, it generates some 80 percent fewer carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline. The Volvo S40 1.6D is the automaker’s efficient production vehicle that consumes 48 mpg of diesel. The emissions produced are 15 to 20 percent less than an equivalently powerful gasoline model. The Volvo S60 B-Fuel, which is powered by gasoline and biomethane, is also part of Volvo’s green lineup. When fueled by biomethane, tailpipe emissions of carbon dioxide are reduced to some 25 percent compared to gasoline fuel emissions. The evolution of Volvo is aimed at producing fuel-efficient, elegant, functional, green cars.

Volvo 850 Parts

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008
volvo
Evander Klum asked:

Even though the production of the Volvo 850 came to an end in 1997, a considerable number of this car model can still be spotted along in streets and highways, operating with the same top-notch performance and safety features seven years after it was last manufactured. The sturdy build of the Volvo 850 certainly has something to do with this, along with the enduring quality of Volvo 850 Parts. With proper care, these Volvo 850 parts are certain to deliver performance that’s longer than the average.

The Volvo 850 is an executive luxury car. It is equipped with Volvo 850 parts proven to be reliable and safe. What makes the 850 noteworthy, aside such qualities, is the fact that it was the first front-wheel drive Volvo exported to North America. It features an all aluminum 20-valve 5-cylinder engine that promotes better fuel mileage. Because a number of Volvo 850 parts are known for the security they guarantee, most Volvo 850 owners still continue to purchase Volvo 850 parts rather than going for a few upgrades. Some of the best Volvo 850 parts of a Volvo 850 are the dual front airbags, antilock brakes, head restraints, three-point seat belts for all passengers, power windows, door locks, mirrors, cruise control, and dual zone climate control for the passenger compartment.

In order to cope up with the latest trends in automobiles, quality standards for Volvo 850 parts were refined, surpassing those of a number of competitors. The plan was to give the Volvo 850 stylish flair while still maintaining stellar engine performance that the vehicle has always been known for. The Volvo 850 parts out on the market include the Volvo condensers, bumper, carpet, catalytic converters, door, door glass, electrical parts, engine parts, exhaust, fenders, floor mats, fuel tanks, gas tanks, grill, header panel, hood, hubcap, mirrors, radiators, radiator support, rim, spoilers, wheels, windshield, sealed beam, side marker lights, backup lights, corner light, fog light, headlights, parking light, side reflector, taillights, and turn signal lights. One can change almost anything from their Volvo 850 and these parts will effectively stretch the lifespan of one’s Volvo 850.
