Carlos asked:

My neighbor got a new Volvo XC70 when she got her license, and for an April Fools joke, I want to completely cover her car in saran-wrap making it impossible for her to get in. How much should I use and how much will it cost?

Volvo Releases List of Treasure Hunt Finalists

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
volvo
Kevin Anderson asked:

The list of the final and selected Volvo XC90 treasure hunters has now been released by Volvo Cars. And how many treasure seekers would be battling it out to dig up the Volvo XC90 for himself? Seven. And these seven come from various parts of the globe.

The Volvo Treasure Hunt was actually in support to the Disney movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”. The whole competition is global and uses multi-media, which is the very first of its kind. Somewhere around the globe, the treasure - a pirate-themed Volvo XC90 powered by a V8 engine - is still buried. And the finalist who would be able to decipher and discover the Volvo XC90 would claim it as his very own. And for those contestants which may be quite down on his luck, who knows? They may even be able to dig up Volvo XC70 parts to bring home.

Three Americans - Jenny Buckalew, David Hutz, and James Hutz - were able to make it to the final seven Volvo treasure hunters. The other treasure seekers hail from Spain, the United Kingdom, Austria, and Japan. Karl Lloyd is British, Jose Luis Dominguez Monge is the Spaniard, Akihiro Horibe is the Japanese pirate, and Susanne Kalintsch is the Austrian treasure seeker. Right now, they are still preparing for the huge adventure that awaits them on August 6. Come that date, Volvo would be flying them to a new location where the final leg of the race would start. However, the location would remain undisclosed until the day of the competition. Sure enough, the last leg would not be a piece of cake.

Anne Belec is the president and CEO for Volvo’s operations in North America. She excitedly exclaims, “We had participants blogging, sharing clues, writing online poems and becoming deeply engaged in the process. We had more than 52,000 participants in the US alone, each of which had to come into a Volvo retailer to pick up a treasure map to begin play, with 25 percent of them opting in for more information about Volvo cars while they played. It has been a wildly entertaining campaign and we are looking forward to seeing who actually finds the Volvo we buried.”

Volvo Makes C30 for the Young Ones

Thursday, November 19th, 2009
volvo
Glady Reign asked:

Car manufacturers would indeed have to first decide as per what kind of market would they want their vehicle to be sold. And with that in mind, they could be able to start building and designing the vehicle so much so that it would appeal to the chosen market.

With that, it does look like Volvo Cars has decided that the 2007 Volvo C30 would be the kind of vehicle that they would be sending to the market to appeal to the younger car buyers.

Those who have taken a look at the new 2007 Volvo C30 have said that this vehicle is very much like that of the previous Volvo 1800ES. The latter is a sports car that has been making rounds during the year 1973. However, Volvo did maintain that the 2007 Volvo C30 is actually one vehicle that has been created using the very same platform that the current Volvo S40 sedan and the V50, a station wagon, use.

This new vehicle for the youth market comes with the trademark Volvo grille and there is certainly no mistaking that. Despite the fact that it looks similarly like the 1973 sports car model, this vehicle also does have some attributes like the current Volvo S40. But the similarities are only starting here.

Just like the Volvo S40, this 2007 Volvo C30 also comes using the Volvo transmission mount to provide an even better ride and performance. And when you do take a look at the vehicle’s interior, you would notice that the dashboard is simply very much like that of the Volvo S40. The center console of the vehicle has been made to be quite slim and it comes to show off a design that shows of minimalism.

For options, Volvo Cars decided to give consumers quite a few choices when it comes to the 2007 Volvo C30. For example, there are going to be five choices for the upholstery. The center console comes in two designs and there are also two options for the inlay for the door panels. The wheels have four different alloy decorations as well as four different colors for the exterior body kit.

Get Only the Best at the Lowest Price With Volvo Aftermarket Parts

Thursday, November 19th, 2009
volvo
John Garett asked:

There are a lot of things you should consider before buying parts for your Volvo. These things can be performance, reliability and of course, affordability. Who wouldn’t want to get the best Volvo parts at the lowest price possible? And it’s good to know that there are always possibilities out there, and one of these possibilities is buying Volvo aftermarket parts. The term “aftermarket” refers to the collective network of vendors who design and sell vehicular parts and accessories that are intended to replace the stock manufacturer’s parts. There are two basic reasons behind this. First is to alter the appearance or performance of the vehicle and second is to serve as a straight replacement for a stock item at a lower price, with no intention to cause such a change in appearance or performance. Aftermarket parts are usually certified genuine pre-owned parts. Keep in mind though that second-hand doesn’t translate to second-rate because these aftermarket parts have undergone rigorous quality control tests to be able to meet the highest standards of performance. Volvo aftermarket parts can have the same or higher quality than that of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts because being called aftermarket parts doesn’t mean that they are lower in quality. The only thing that is guaranteed is that they are less expensive than OEM parts and this can be very helpful to those people who want to their Volvo at its best shape without spending too much. When customizing and personalizing your Volvo, Volvo aftermarket parts can also give you the perfect look you want to achieve by providing styling and enhancements available only in the aftermarket. The Volvo after market parts you would want to buy may include your radiator hose that provide a flexible connection for coolant flow between the engine and the radiator, your thermostat which is a wax-pellet type temperature operated valve used to control engine temperature, your brake pad set which provides your car the ability to stop which is an essential mechanism of the car, your brake dust shields which are designed to permanently keep your car’s rims shiny clean to keep brake dust from settling on your wheels, and even your car floor mats which are used to protect your car’s floor from mud, dirt and other foreign objects. Whatever your Volvo needs, aftermarket parts can cater these at lesser price than that of the original parts. However, there are some important things that you need to know before buying your Volvo aftermarket parts. First, you should at least do a background check to know if your dealer is reputable. You can do this by emailing the company and asking a few questions like how long is their business, who is their supplier and what support do they usually offer. Some internet research and information from friends who are well-versed in the subject can also help. But for your Volvo aftermarket parts, it will be really useful if you only buy from trusted Volvo dealers for they offer only certified Volvo aftermarket parts that also come with warranties and technical supports. It’s good to know that you can give your Volvo the best parts without worrying too much of how much it will cost you. When you are on a budget, then buying Volvo aftermarket parts is the best option for you.

Another Award-winning Bus From Volvo

Monday, November 16th, 2009
volvo
Glady Reign asked:

Volvo is a name associated with car safety, thanks to the company’s dedication to producing safe and high performance car for the public. They have been known to manufacture cars with a long list of safety features possibly longer than any car manufacturers that Volvo’s cars are up against. These cars from Volvo have received much praise and high ratings due to their safety from different safety agencies. But their cars’ safety is not the only thing Volvo is known for - they are also the world’s second largest manufacturer of trucks and buses, next only to General Motors. They are not also known just for producing trucks and buses but also by the quality and high performance of such heavy-duty vehicles.

Their buses and trucks have been receiving much praise from different sector. As a matter of fact, one of their bus models have recently received an award in India for being a positive factor in affecting the public’s attitude towards public transportation and for helping alleviate the country’s major cities’ problem in traffic congestion.

The company’s good reputation is getting better with yet another award for one of their bus models and this time in Finland. The recipient this time of the award is the low-entry bus, the Volvo 8700 LE, which was given the distinction of being the Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Finland.

The coveted title is awarded to the Volvo bus by the transport trade magazine Ajolinja. One of the factors cited as to why the Volvo bus was chosen for the prestigious award is its very low emission levels. The bus, after all, already meets the Euro 5 emission standard which will not be effective until 2009. The significantly lower emission level is better appreciated since Volvo is the first bus manufacturer to produce buses with diesel engine that meets the Euro 5 standard in Finland. The design of the engine and its exhaust system makes the lower emission of the bus possible.

Another reason for the awarding of the Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Finland to the Volvo 8700 LE is its role in the improvement of inter-city travel in the capital city area. The Volvo buses are a part of the Jokeri bus transport system in the country’s capital. The bus transport system has recently received much praise for its efficiency akin to the efficiency of a well oiled Volvo ball joint. A GPS system in each bus allows waiting passengers to know how long it will take approximately the next bus will arrive. This convenient feature of the buses makes this transport system passenger-friendly. Comfort of the passengers is also assured thanks to the comfortable seats and a roomy interior.

Volvo has 29 low-entry buses being employed in the Jokeri transit system and each of these buses have priority at crossings with traffic signals in a separate bus lane. This fact allows for less stops resulting to even lower emissions and faster transportation of passengers. These 14.7-meter long buses can seat up to 103 passengers and runs the 30-kilometer bus route that the Jokeri Line runs. The high performance diesel engine ensures that the buses travel fast and safe which Volvo is known for the world over.

Apart from the eco-friendly nature of the buses, another thing that gave them the award is their positive effect on the choice of transport systems for the large number of commuters in the country’s capital city Helsinki. Their safety and the convenience they accord to commuters made them a good alternative to more expensive transport systems like trams or subways.

Greg asked:

It started out that my radio shut off, than the odometers and display screen shut off. They come back intermitantly, however now I am receiving every error message in the book, i.e., airbags need service, brake failure, antiskid device needs service. This is obviously a problem with the cars computer system, but does nayone have any idea what could be wrong with the car? Car is currently at the Volvo dealer and they are puzzeled.
