What would cause a Volvo to jump and jerk when pulling out?

I have a chance to buy a Volvo @ a great price. The guy converted the axels over. I’m wondering if this is why it jerks and jumps when you first pull out in it. It’s a 1984 automatic.

      transmission fluid could be very low

      The throttle you would probably be expierencing some stalling out some more.
